If you’re tired of riding your Peloton bike and Zoom-ing into work from a tiny apartment with a view of nothing but concrete and you feel like moving upstate to ride a real bike in the great outdoors and feel the earth with your bare hands but still need a place to work, you should check out Barnfox in Hudson, NY.
Barely a year old, created by Brooklynites Freddie Pikovsky, who founded DUMBO Startup Lab, and carpenter Tim Tedesco a few weeks before the Covid lockdown, it has really grown into a well needed escape for people who are stuck working from home.
What is Barnfox? First, it is a co-working space with a sleek design manufactured by Tedesco’s mad carpentry skills located in the heart of Warren Street. Brooklyn is filled with co-working spaces you say? You cannot live without an intravenous drip of kombucha? No need to fret. Barnfox has kombucha on tap so you’ll still feel like you’re home! But I ask you, is it easy to go kayaking in Brooklyn? How about taking a bike ride on rural roads where you are dodging wildlife as opposed to taxicabs? Have you seen any trees lately? Barnfox offers more than simply a space with snacks; it is an experience with what Pikovsky calls a “summer camp vibe.” It offers a slew of outdoor group activities for members raising the bar for networking events. Last year’s events included the usual brunch, dinner and happy hour but it also included kayaking, biking and hiking. This summer even more…
During the past year Barnfox has flourished opening a spacious second location in Kingston and will soon open another in Livingston Manor in the Catskills. The experience does not stop there. Barnfox has partnered with local boutique property owners and offers sweet accommodations. The benefits go both ways. Barnfox members can stay at featured accommodations at a discount and guests can buy a day pass to Barnfox (it is the only way to buy a day pass). There are various membership levels, dedicated desks in the Kingston location, free conference rooms and 24-hour access. You can check out their upcoming and past events on their Instagram site @barnfoxclub.
If you’re not the spontaneous type and need to overthink the outdoors, Pikovsky published an excellent book a few years back called Back to the Land that is chockful of stories about how other people rediscovered the outdoors…
