Alvin Ailey’s modern dance repertory company, Ailey II, brings a community celebration to Hudson
On July 28th and 29th, the Hudson Area Library hosted a series of exciting and successful community events to celebrate the launch of Ailey II’s 50th season of visionary, dynamic modern dance performances. Ailey II (the younger version of the world-renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater) visited Hudson for an unprecedented weekend of free community programming for all ages.
To start, Filmmaker, John Campbell, moderated a panel discussion with former Ailey Associate Artistic Director, Masazumi Chaya, immediately following a film screening of the 2021 Ailey documentary, a beautiful portrait of legendary choreographer, Alvin Ailey. Then, some of Ailey II’s professional dancers led two masterclass dance workshops, providing a fun and enriching opportunity for Columbia County youth of various ages and skill levels to engage with the company’s community outreach projects. Finally, the Ailey II dancers shared a gorgeous public dance performance to a packed house.
Participants and audience members were thrilled to take part in this rare and wonderful experience, witnessing some of the most talented dancers in the world, right here in Hudson.
This program was presented in partnership with JCINTIME, LLC and Operation Unite NY and it is supported by the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation’s Fund for Columbia County
