Hello Hudson!
I was scooped, scooped by the Register-Star this morning! They did their cover story on the new sandwich place at 430 Prison Alley, Hudson Sandwich Shop. I ate lunch from there yesterday, and had a post waiting.
I was scooped like tuna salad on rye.
I have informants – people who give me tips to the latest and greatest of our Friendly City. I was tipped off about the Hudson Sandwich Shop, because, frankly, I would not have found this place on my own.
How well do you know your Hudson alley names? I’ll take Hudson Alleys for $400, please. There are no alley signs, but the names do appear on google maps…in case you get lost.
If you hear “Prison Alley”, your first thought might be that it’s the alley closest to the prison.
WRONG!
The current prison (or Hudson Correctional Facility) is the new prison and the old prison was on Warren and Fourth. Prison Alley is between Warren and Columbia.
The sandwiches and salads are straight-forward, hearty and well-priced. They are open M-F 11am-3pm, and have plans to open earlier for breakfast. It’s really easy to order and pay online, then pick it up in about fifteen minutes – as long as you don’t get lost like I did.
See you around town, Hudson!

If you are REALLY looking for nativity sets, then go on a pilgrimage to Via San Gregorio Armeno in Naples, Italy. Otherwise known as “Christmas Alley”, this one street in Naples sells nativity sets and Christmas decorations year round. Here are photos from my day-trip to Naples.
