Thank you Eric, Marie, and Eugenia for a spectacular night!
Hello Hudson,
Throughout the years of planning events in Hudson, I’ve learned to appreciate winter. I used to take it as a challenge to get folks out of their homes. I organized Red Parties and Love Balls on Valentine’s Day, bar night Match Games, movie nights, you name it. If a snowstorm blew in, it was a lost cause. It took years, and many failures, to give in, and lean into winter. Now, during wintertime, I do projects around the house that I’ve been neglecting – paint the bedroom, (re)caulk the shower tile – you know, fun stuff!
I started reading the book, “Wintering” by Katherine May, and wondered how it made it to the top of the NYT Best Seller list. Maybe it’s the concept of “wintering” that made it popular. In a media-filled world of sunsoaked Malibu rum and pineapple beaches, we tend to see these dour cold gray months of limited sunshine as a negative experience.
Unless you’re Morrissey, of course…

Think of winter as a positive and productive time to knock items off the TO DO list.
For instance, the Trixie’s List Business Map is (back) up and running! Under Businesses > Map
This winter, my plan is to go through and update the Trixie’s List Hudson Business Directory listings – a Sisyphean task. If your business is not listed, and you’d like it listed, or updated, please contact me, and I’ll make it happen.
I write all this as if I actually believe it, but the real trick to surviving an upstate winter? Book a trip to warm weather!
Albany International Airport is my favorite airport. Parking is $5/day, it takes about 45 minutes to drive there, and the time from parking the car to getting through security has taken me as little as fifteen minutes (but, allow for more time). Albany International is a welcomed commute if you’re used to Newark or JFK. There’s a meditation room and a model airplane with Shaker chairs! (Very on-brand for the Capital District!)

There are new-to-Hudson New York City folk, who, when I mention Albany Airport to them, look at me like I have three heads. They would never have considered going any further north than Columbia County! Some think of the rest of upstate New York like ancient Romans thought of any place north of the Alps – uncharted and filled with barbarians!
Enjoy the down time, Hudson!
Trix
PS – the BEST time in Hudson can be during a snowstorm! Find a bar/restaurant that’s open and have a drink with a neighbor, because no one else, other than people who live nearby, is going to walk through the snow. Happy Snow Days, Hudson!

Maybe you want something comforting for lunch, like warm homemade soup in a bread bowl from “Aim” 2 Please?

The soup in a bread bowl is just the right size – pair it with the salad bar to be extra healthy. The bread is freshly baked, and slightly toasted on top – delicious! Try the yogurt and fruit bar for breakfast. They usually have a fun breakfast special – like chocolate chip pancakes. Where is “Aim” 2 Please? It’s caddy-corner to Planet Fitness on Fairview (formerly George’s). Go there for the chocolate chip pancake breakfast and tell yourself that you’ll hit the gym after – or not.
The restaurant has been completely renovated and redecorated since George’s. It’s warm and cozy inside, as if you’re visiting family. Everyone is super friendly. Check out the “Aim” 2 Please facebook page for daily specials.

How adorable!
