On Saturday, May 18th, Jill Dearman leads a Mystery School at TSL, 4pm. Trixie’s List had a few questions.
Trixie’s List: What can someone expect if they attend Mystery School?
Jill Dearman: In ancient times as well as in the early part of the 20th Century, Mystery Schools emerged as a way for sages and seekers to gather and study secret knowledge of the universe. The schools were focused on one area of specialty, and you would learn hidden wisdom from metaphysical masters. But now you can just go on the Internet and find out a little bit about hermeticism a little bit about astrology. Nothing is secret anymore! And we are living in a global society, in which it behooves us to gain multi-faceted knowledge, and develop our own path to wisdom, rather than rely on a single God or Guru. In this Mystery School pop-up event, folks will learn about the significant astrological “weather,” of the moment and how to navigate it; learn about astrological connections to tarot, I-Ching and kabbalah; and how to use these tools to find peace and purpose.
Trixie’s List: If someone is curious about astrology, but they don’t know very much, would this be for them?
Jill Dearman: Sure! I keep it all down to earth.
Trixie’s List: Is Mystery School interactive? Is it a lecture?
Jill Dearman: Both. I will give a lecture, and then lead exercises like “speed dating with your higher self” (Going to first base with your higher self will be up to you.) We’ll do some guided meditations and there will be drawing of symbols and mandalas with crayons. It’s meant to be fun and playful and a chill way to connect with community. But no one will be pulled up on the stage to be hypnotized.
Trixie’s List: Does Mystery School tie in with your mystery writings?
Jill Dearman: No, although my mysteries do all contain some mystical themes! Mystery School connects more to my first books, Queer Astrology for Men and Queer Astrology for Women. (The event is for everyone, FYI.)
Trixie’s List: What is the most mysterious thing about Hudson?
Jill Dearman: Who is the Hudson Wail? And are they a simulation???!!!
