The Mac-Haydn Theatre continues its summer season with the five time Tony-winning musical including Best Musical, “Sister Act,” running June 27 through July 14.
Based on the hit 1992 film starring Whoopi Goldberg, “Sister Act” returns to the stage for the second time in Mac-Haydn history. Nominated for five Tony Awards including Best Musical, this high-energy, uplifting tale is a story of unity and faith.
Leading the production is Director Todd Underwood whose direction and choreography was last seen on the Mac-Haydn stage with The Fully Monty in 2022 and Man of La Mancha in 2021. Partnering for the first time and making their creative debut at the Mac-Haydn is Choreographer Clint Hromsco. They are joined by Music Director Matt Levinstein and Music Supervisor Eric Shorey. The production features scenic design by Alivia Cross, along with lighting design by Andrew Gmoser, costume design by Daniel Hewson, sound design by Sean McGinley, hair and makeup design by Emily Allen, and props design by Clay Cates.
Making Mac-Haydn performance debuts are Laiya Parker as Deloris Van Cartier and Josh Walker as Eddie Souther. Among the returnees of the cast are Monica Wemmitt as Mother Superior, Cydney Gleckner as Sister Mary Robert, and Taye Martin as Curtis Jackson.
The musical comedy features music styles ranging from Motown, soul and funk to disco anthems. Get ready to raise your voice with the iconic score of “Sister Act”, featuring “Fabulous, Baby,” “I Could Be That Guy,” “The Life I Never Lead,” “Raise Your Voice,” and the unforgettable title song “Sister Act” for a three week run.
This show also earned Tony nominations for best original score with music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Glenn Slater, plus best book of a musical by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner and Douglas Carter Beane.“Sister Act” is a tribute to the universal power of friendship and finding your voice, a hilarious and joyful musical experience for the entire family.
