Artist Jack Millard has an upcoming show, Knowing/Unknowing coming up at Lightforms Art Center.
The Opening Reception is Friday, August 30th, 5:30 – 7:30pm with singing saw serenades by Ryder & friends.
Jack Millards’ paintings are largely an exploration of material, surface, color, texture and form. Ranging from geometric abstraction to distorted figures, landscapes and portraiture, Millard’s paintings suggest deeper, psychological narratives rooted in everyday relationships. Working with architectural paints, Millard paints on the floor and wall with wide brushes, hands and rags. The resulting images are bold, a mingling of familiar shapes and unexpected juxtapositions.
Trixie’s List had a few questions for artist Jack Millard:
Q: When and how long have you been painting?
A: I started in high school and have painted ever since.
Q: Why acrylic?
A: There’s a wide range of colors available with great finishes. I used to paint with oil, but acrylic is much healthier for the lungs.
Q: What inspires you to paint?:
A: I’m inspired by the rich variety of colors , shapes and patterns that surround me in my everyday life. But also by exuberance and complexity in other art forms, especially music, from Taylor Swift to J. S. Bach.
Q: Do you have any advice for artists?
A: Just keep painting; don’t give up.
Q: What have I learned over the years?
A: Stretch your canvas really tight. Clean your brushes carefully, and reseal your paints.
Q: What does your art represent?
A: Life itself, in all its forms, from order and beauty to shattering chaos.
