For Immediate Release
Neverstill Wines, led by an all-female team, opens a sophisticated new tasting room in Hudson, New York. The space, designed by Amy Ilias (@thelavenderghost), a Hudson-based designer/consultant and former EVP of Art & Design at the famed ABC Carpet & Home, pays homage to the beauty of the Neverstill vineyard near New York’s Seneca Lake- the water, the soil, the climate.
“My intention was to create an interior that honored organic form, had fluidity, and referenced nature. A space that would not overwhelm the subtleties of the wine, but rather is reflective of the wine- romantic, complex, specific, ” Ilias explains.
The tasting room offers a tasting of four wines, including three from the Neverstill inaugural vintage and a rotating selection from one of their partner NY wineries. This September, the tasting experience includes Neverstill 2023 Riesling, Neverstill 2023 Reserve Riesling, Neverstill 2023 Chenin Blanc, and Fjord 2022 Gamay Noir. They also offer a rotating selection of wines by the glass and bottle from wineries across New York state.
Founder Christy Counts was drawn to Hudson for the tasting room, as she is captivated by the city’s vibrant art, antiques, and culinary scene. “I wanted our tasting room to be an experience as unique as the wines themselves,” says Counts. “It was important to create a space where our customers can relax, taste the wines, and unwind with friends.”
And while Hudson is the ideal location for this New York winemaker’s tasting room, the Finger Lakes was the inspiration behind the wines themselves. The region’s reputation for cool climate viticulture and its location in the eastern US were both deciding factors. “The transportation and shipping of wine is one of the biggest contributors to the wine industry’s carbon footprint,” Counts explains. “Instead of shipping wines into New York from California or Europe, why not support our local grape growers and vineyards, whose quality is equally as outstanding? Grape varieties such as Riesling benefit from the longer growing season of the region, and the cool climate wines of the Finger Lakes, characterized by their lighter bodies and lower alcohol content, align perfectly with evolving consumer preferences.”
Acknowledging the environmental impact of the wine industry, Neverstill Wines champions sustainability as a core value. By prioritizing local production and reducing transportation emissions through innovative bottling choices. Neverstill aims to minimize its ecological footprint without compromising on quality.
In late 2022, the esteemed Master of Wine, Nova Cadamatre, joined Neverstill team as its Consulting Winemaker, bringing unparalleled expertise and a passion for innovation. The team expanded further with the addition of Bryce Lianna as assistant winemaker during the 2023 harvest. Together, the Neverstill team of dynamic women are on a mission to showcase the exceptional quality of wines crafted in New York.
