One of the BEST tours in Hudson, is the annual Cemetery Tour given by Spotty Dog’s Kelley Drahushuk and sponsored by the Hudson Area Library’s History Room. The tour is filled with historical facts, descriptions, and you learn, literally, where the bodies are buried!
The tour was last Saturday, Oct 23rd.
The City’s cemetery, born during the rural cemetery movement, is a meandering park where families would spend holidays visiting deceased relative.
You’ll learn the difference between a crypt and a mausoleum. Kelley’s family, Evans, has a crypt in the cemetery, which is a stop on the tour.
I don’t want to give away too much information. An audio tour is available here, if you’d like to take a tour on your own.
You’ll pass the Veterans Memorial section, (above), with stones recently cleaned by local volunteers. This section of the cemetery made national news several year ago. Watch the video below:
There’s a Hudson City Cemetery Facebook group here, if you’d like to join and learn more.
For those who read all the way through, a CRYPT is buried into a hill while a MAUSOLEUM is all above ground!
Is there a date and time for the cemetery tour?
The tour was last weekend, the 23rd.
