The Silent Woman (Die Schweigsame Frau)
Considered Strauss’s only true comic opera, this rollicking piece represents an intriguing evolution in the composer’s work. With an incisively witty libretto by Stefan Zweig featuring a madcap cast of characters including the retired admiral Sir Morosus alongside a scheming barber and a wide-eyed ingenue amongst others, this imaginative production by Christian Räth (Das Wunder der Heliane, SummerScape 2019) promises to be delightful summertime fare.
