You’re on a “date” in Hudson – maybe it’s a first/second date. Maybe you’re married, and it’s date night. You turn to your partner and say, “Let’s get some gelato!”
Both of you get in the car, and you drive down 3rd Street, onto 9G, outside the City of Hudson, and your partner looks at you and asks, with a little concern, “Hon, where are we going?”
“Don’t worry. There’s this great place for gelato. It’s home-made. They make it right there. I read about it on ‘Trixie’s List’.”
Your partner looks at you and says, “Trixie’s List??” They turn the other way, and look out the passenger window and say, “Fine”.
You drive over the Rip van Winkle Bridge, towards the other side of the (TheHudsonWail-coined) “Rip van Winkle Metropolitan Area,” and down onto Main Street in Catskill.
Your partner, who does not leave Hudson very often, looks around Main Street, and says, “Catskill is so quaint. We should come here more often…”
You drive up to the top of Main Street, by the Rip van Winkle statue, and park. You gesture towards the Catskill Chocolate Company. “This is it!”
As you both walk towards the picturesque vintage storefront, your partner says, “OH!”, with a slight inflection, which translates, “Maybe you were right about this, and I was wrong, but I’m not going to actually SAY that.”
Voilà, here you are at the Catskill Chocolate Company, which looks like you’re in a bakery from the 1920s
Some Hudson residents may remember Lauren when she used to work at the Strongtree coffee shop in Hudson, across from the train station, which then turned into Relish, and is now Kitty’s.
Gelato flavors include standards such as vanilla and chocolate, but also tangelo, and honied lilac and rose. All of the gelato is handmade, right there in Catskill. Everything is amazingly delicious and you will totally score points with your date. Stop in before or after a movie at the Catskill Community Theatre! There’s an idea.
Check it out!
(Tell Lauren I said Hello, and that I’m sorry it took so long for me to finish this post!)
