(July 4, 2024–Chatham, NY) The Mac-Haydn Theatre continues its summer season with Jonathan Larson’s Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “Rent,” running July 18 through July 28.
The groundbreaking story inspired by Puccini’s “La Bohème” returns to the Mac-Haydn stage, captivating audiences with its raw, resonant storytelling and remarkable rock score that defined contemporary musical theatre.
The season’s inaugural production for Artistic Director John Saunders follows his recent success from last season’s sell-out “Jersey Boys.” Accompanying Saunders are Choreographer Elizabeth McGuire and Music Director Eric Shorey. The production features scenic design by Alivia Cross, along with lighting design by Andrew Gmoser, costume design by Bethany Marx, sound design by Sean McGinley, hair and makeup design by Emily Allen, and props design by Clay Cates.
The powerhouse cast is led by Andrew Burton Kelley (Bob Gaudio, “Jersey Boys” 2023) as Mark Cohen, Jared Goodwin (Tony, “West Side Story” 2024) as Roger Davis, Ana Viveros (Consuelo, “West Side Story” 2024) as Mimi Marquez, Anthony Michael Velez (Paul San Marco, “A Chorus Line” 2022) as Angel Dumott Schunard, Josh Walker (Eddie Souther, “Sister Act” 2024) as Benjamin Coffin III, Amber Mawande-Spytek (Natalie, “Next to Normal” 2022) as Joanne Jefferson, and Adeline Trivers (Betty Jean, “The Marvelous Wonderettes” 2023) as Maureen Johnson. Marcus Jordan makes his Mac-Haydn debut as Tom Collins.
Rent’s Tony-winning score includes unforgettable anthems such as “Seasons of Love,” “I’ll Cover You,” “Take Me or Leave Me,” and the iconic “La Vie Boheme.”
Please be advised that “Rent” contains strong language, and themes relating to drug use, addiction, illness, suicide and suggestive content. The Mac-Haydn Theatre does not recommend “Rent” for audience members younger than 13.
