(Musical/Romance; 1 hr, 55 mins)
This 1984 American musical drama features Prince and his band The Revolution, in a narrative film based on the group’s sixth studio album of the same name. The movie follows the Kid, an easily-angered musician who tries to avoid making the same mistakes as his truculent father (Clarence Williams III), while navigating the club scene and a rocky relationship with a captivating singer, Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero). But another musician, Morris (Morris Day), looks to steal the Kid’s spotlight — and his girl.
The Story Screen Music Film Festival (SSMFF) is a new film festival spotlighting both music-based cinematic storytelling and the songwriters and musical storytellers whose words and music deserve our collective attention. This exciting program is a collection of premier and classic concert/movie musicals, music documentaries, and experimental cinematic concert events, including several video shorts by local Upstate New York Indie musicians and artists!
