The local Salvation Army chapter is having a contactless food drive this Saturday. Here’s the link to the event with more info.
I know what you’re thinking….Trixie, isn’t there an issue with the Sal Army and gays?
Look, I’ve worked with the local Hudson chapter for years, and I can tell you that they do amazing work here in Hudson. They serve everyone – no questions asked, no sermons preached. Every day, they provide over 60 hot lunches (sometimes with fresh home-baked cookies from yours truly!) throughout Hudson, plus dinners. If anyone needs food, they have a food pantry. They are very involved in our community. You’ve seen the building – it’s across the street from what used to be Or Bar.
But, why believe me? I googled a little to find out about the Salvation Army and LGBTQs. I found this recent article on CNN.com on how the Salvation Army is trying to change its anti-gay reputation.
The problem is, if you scroll down the CNN website, there’s tons of clickbait! Within seconds of my “research”, I’m reading the 9 Minor Goofs You Never Noticed on ‘Gilligan’s Island’!! (which was actually, a much more interesting read.)
Did you know that on one episode of Gilligan’s Island, you can see a building in the distance over the lagoon? Fascinating!
Or that Dawn Wells is the only one who received residuals from the show?
Good for you, MaryAnn!
My point is, you don’t have to be a millionaire, or his wife, to make a non-perishable food donation to the Salvation Army in Hudson this Saturday from 9-noon.
