Claverack Free Library Hosts Book Talk and Walk on Habitats Around Claverack

The Claverack Free Library will host the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program for a book talk on Wednesday, September 25th at 6pm entitled “From the Hudson to the Taconics—Looking at Our Landscape Through the Lens of Habitats in the Claverack Area.”

This is the last in a series of talks at Columbia County libraries introducing the new book by the Farmscape Ecology Program and Hudsonia, From the Hudson to the Taconics: An Ecological and Cultural Field Guide to the Habitats of Columbia County, New York.

High Falls

Authors of the book will also lead a habitat exploration walk at High Falls in Philmont on Saturday, September 28th at 1pm, in which participants will have a chance to use the Field Guide to explore several different habitats.

The book talk is free and will be a chance to hear directly from the authors about the Field Guide and select habitats in the Claverack area, including their ecology, associated plants and animals, history, stewardship, cultural perspectives, and ways to interact more deeply with them.

The habitat exploration walk will be a guided exploration of several habitats, including floodplain forest hemlock forest, and black locust forest, using the Field Guide (copies will be provided for participants to borrow, or they can be purchased at the event). While the walk is free, registration for the walk is requested and can be made by signing up directly at the Claverack Free Library or by emailing fep@hawthornevalleyfarm.org.
