Hands to Work: Textile Reuse & Community Resilience
Shaker Museum partners with LikeMindedObjects and Basilica Hudson on an evening of creative community conversation and crafting, inspired by Shaker Museum’s current exhibition, The Alchemy of Re.Use, in our pop-up gallery space at the Kinderhook Knitting Mill.
LikeMindedObjects design studio team will lead a textile upcycling and mending workshop from 5:00-8:00 pm. They will provide sewing machines, hand sewing supplies and large square t-shirt weaving looms. Please bring six old t-shirts for weaving or clothing items to mend, alter, or upcycle.
A dialogue around textiles, Shaker values, fair labor practices, sustainability and community building runs from 6:00-7:00 pm in Basilica’s North Hall, featuring Shaker Museum’s own Director of Collections and Research Jerry Grant and local textile artists and vendors Elise McMahon of LikeMindedObjects, Sabine Steen of Triform Weavery, and Fahari Wambura, whose eponymously named store is located on Hudson Street in Chatham, NY.
This event is free to all with registration, and the workshop is appropriate for all ages.
