We love a good musical here at the Mac-Haydn, but have you ever heard the story of the very first musical? Something Rotten is a side splitting mash-up of sixteenth-century Shakespeare and twenty-first-century Broadway; the ultimate musical-within-a-musical.
As Shakespeare reigns as the rock star of the Renaissance, under-appreciated brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom – yes, you read that correctly – struggle to write the next big play. That is, until they learn that the key to a hit show involves singing, dancing and acting – all at the same time. As the Bottom brothers set off to invent the musical, they find themselves in trouble fighting social norms, family struggles, and even the egotistical Shakespeare himself.
This heartfelt and hilarious musical comedy is full of outrageous, enormous production numbers that will have you on your feet.. after you have pulled yourself off the floor laughing, that is. The Tony-nominated score flaunts songs like “God, I Hate Shakespeare,” “Welcome to the Renaissance,” “Will Power,” “Right Hand Man,” and “A Musical.” We’re celebrating Something Rotten’s Mac-Haydn Debut for Three Egg-straordinary Weeks!
