Opening Reception: Ekaterina Vanovskaya: New Work
How does our past impact our emotions, responses and ways of being? Perceptions of our childhood define the way we live our lives today. Painting serves as reconciliation with the self. When I paint it is as if I am painting about a secret that nobody else knows.
I was born and spent my childhood in St. Petersburg, Russia and memorable childhood experiences frame the core of my work. I use these memories as narratives for my paintings. My goal is not to literally depict physical events, but to convey the emotions that permeated my world at that time.
