The 12 Mandalas-Artist Talk by A.T. Mann

“The Twelve Mandalas were created and painted by A.T. Mann in 1975 on the houseboat Inale, anchored under the Battersea Bridge in Chelsea, London. They are mandalas, meditation diagrams, talismans, architecture, religious art, cosmologies, carriers of spiritual traditions, geometric patterns, and fine art. These were all constructed with their cardinal forms: the circle and the square. The medium was liquid water colors (Lumacolor), and the size of the original boards was 18” x 24”.

The frame of the mandalas echo the astrological signs for which they signify and each is bounded around the periphery by symbols of the sign, its element and its triplicity, geometry, and historical origin. Many are more recent forms of ancient imagery from cultural and archival material, as will be explained by the artist.
