Life Along Ghent’s Boston & Albany Railroad

On Saturday, February 15, at 4pm, the Claverack Free Library is thrilled to host Ghent Town Historian, Gregg Berninger. In a captivating presentation, Berninger will resurrect the stories and experiences of those who once lived along the historic rail line that connected Hudson, Claverack, Ghent, and beyond.

“We’ll explore the social and economic life that thrived along one of North America’s first railroads. People worked, danced, and died along this now mostly forgotten rail line,” noted Berninger. “It’ll take some imagination, but we’re going to get as close as we can to those who came before us.”

The rise of railroads brought prosperity that transformed the lives of every Ghent resident. However, their disappearance left a social and economic vacuum yet to be filled.

Berninger, known for his provocative public presentations and engaging YouTube videos, promises an enriching and at times humorous experience. Internationally acclaimed photographer Richard Beaven has praised him as a “fantastic, engaging, interesting bloke,” and Ghent Town Supervisor Craig Simmons proudly calls himself Gregg’s “biggest fan.”

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to journey back in time and rediscover the rich history along the Boston & Albany Railroad. Join us at the Claverack Free Library for an afternoon of exploration and discovery.
